Open Source (Free) Tools to Detect Deepfakes & Promote Content Authenticity

·

Feeling overwhelmed in a dystopian world of spoofed social media, fake robocalls giving incorrect voter information, and AI-generated celebrities endorsing presidential candidates?

I have great news for you:

This is a great time to become informed about True Media‘s new political deepfake identification tool. I’m happy to have been given access to their new beta! You can upload files (video, audio, photos, etc.) and check social media posts to see if they are real or fake.

Stats From True Media’s site:

There has been a 1740% surge in deepfakes uncovered in North America in the past year.

Half a million deepfakes were shared on social media around the world in 2023.

That’s…pretty horrific.

I have long been a member of Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative, which is an excellent way for government entities, companies, media, political candidates, and businesses to ensure that their content has a marker upon it showing it is authentic—and it’s origin. This can easily be enabled in Adobe applications and other apps.
